Topical Outline of the Course:


Week 1:
Lecture 1. Review Syllabus, historical origins and the developments in the field of interactive media design. Introduce Web Design, teamwork and collaboration.
Lecture 2. Create the directory structure for class files. Introduce Dreamweaver.Introduce XHTML and HTML5 elements. Use some basic HTML5 Markup.


Week 2:
Lecture 1. HOLIDAY – no class
Lecture 2. Types and purposes of web sites, Fixed vs. Liquid layouts, interface design heuristics for a web page, Critique a web site in terms of user experience and goals of the site, Usability Group Exercise. Assignment #1.


Week 3:
Lecture 1.More HTML5 markup
Lecture 2.Introduction to CSS. Using CSS to configure color and text. Browser tools for web design. Assignment #2.


Week 4:
Lecture 1. Stages of development of a web site, Requirements analysis, site map, content description, navigation prototype, wireframes, design concept note, comps, production plan, and quality assurance.
Lecture 2. Introduction to Tables, accessibility issues.


Week 5:
Lecture 1. Midterm Exam.
Lecture 2. Assignment #3. (and zipped file of course folder)

Week 6:
Lecture 1. – MIDTERM CONFERENCES
Lecture 2. Building a Navigation Bar.


Week 7:
Lecture 1. Typography for the Web.
Lecture 2. Using Web Fonts. Assignment #4


Week 8:

Lecture 2. JavaScript and Client-Side Form Processing


Week 9:
Lecture 1. PHP and Server-Sider Form Processing.
